Forget the Legal Stuff and Just Start Your Business

By - Michael Rader

“Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion. You must first set yourself on fire.” ~ Canadian hockey great Fred Shiro

Opening your own business takes a combination of passion, drive, and perseverance. Without those assets, it may be difficult to keep your creative fires burning. Let’s face it, not everyone has the skills of a veteran business entrepreneur. The great news, however, is that you don’t need those skills to begin.

If you have a strong business idea, the hunger to succeed, and a never say die attitude, you already have one foot in the door of your new business. An understanding of the legal hoops you must jump through will come. You are far better off as a business owner with a clear vision and little logistical experience than the other way around. Many companies have started with little more than a great idea that the owner(s) believed in.

Be aware of any business mandates

It must be said that there are some hoops you must jump through before you begin operating, but the majority can wait until you have your feet wet in the proverbial pool. For instance, many states require a license before a business can even open its doors. This also may or may not include registering your business. Sound complicated? It doesn’t need to be. A quick search of the small business requirements for your city and state can do the trick. The best advice is to simply cover your bases. The last thing your new business needs is legal issues.

Let the rest fall into place

Once you have completed the requirements to open your doors, concentrate on your business concept. Put all of your creative energy and passion into establishing your company and building your brand. Get your vision to the people. Your passion is the engine behind your business. Take advantage of the excitement of starting your own business and put everything you are into its launch.

Obviously, there are a few more legal hurdles to jump, but they will fall into place as your business develops. Don’t let the logistical side of the business extinguish your creative fire. It is a good idea to be aware of your city or state’s legal requirements, but you can piecemeal them into your daily operations. Often, the legal necessities will be completed before you know it.

Do what you love and love what you do

Many people in today’s world dislike what they do. It would be safe to say that some even hate it. If you have a passion inside of you and an idea on how to release that passion to the world, go for it. Let that fire inside of you fuel the launch of your business. Yes, there is a bit more to it than just opening your doors, but most of that can wait. Get your product out there. Entice people through your doors. Make your mark in your area’s business scene and let the logistical details fall into place. Like I said, few businesses were launched on someone’s knowledge of spread sheets and trademarks. It is what’s inside an entrepreneur that really counts.
