Naming Trends and New Emerging Businesses in 2017

  • Made up words
    • Names like Skype (a telecommunications application) and Zynga (a video game developer)
      Two word combinations o Such as Snapchat (a photo messaging app), Fitbit (an exercise-based wearable), and Soulcycle (a high-end spinning studio)
  • Mashed-up words
    • Names like Zillow (a real estate company) and Instacart (an on-demand grocery service)
  • Mainstream words
    • Such as retail heavy-hitters like Target or Staples

As you can see all of these timeless trends involve one word or 1-2 syllable names that pack a punch. These names will be easily recalled and remembered, which lead to repeat customers.

  • A straight-forward, mainstream name that gives the company a persona of having a “knack” for getting the job done quickly and without error.


  • A company aiming to revolutionize the hospitality industry by moving dirty and dangerous tasks to autonomous entities.
  • An intelligent and tech-savvy mash-up that combines the universally recognized “maid” with “robot,” giving customers a glimpse into the future of cleanliness. The name places the company on the cusp of innovation and progress, which makes it very attractive.
